Thursday Thirteen – I’m baaack

  1. I have
been watching a lot of footage lately showing people marching in
Phoenix. While I’m not sure how much any
given person knows about this issue, I do know what a lot of people
don’t know.  So I thought I’d share it with you. The vast majority of this
information was taken directly from La Queen Sucia
    , in her
comments to someone who has been harassing her through her comments section
     .

  2. If you
like what you see here, please go over and show her some
love. This is exactly what she has been doing for others. Besides, she’s got so
much more to share. I’d hate to cut you off with such a small sampling. And
    on with the facts:

  3. According
    to the
National Center for Immigration Law, one in ten
U.S. soldiers who have DIED in
    Iraq has been immigrants.

  4. Five
percent of those serving in our military are illegal immigrants.

  5. One of the first soldiers to die for The United States in the current war in Iraq   was Marine Lance Cpl. Jose Gutierrez, from Guatemala .  He was not a
citizen of the country for which he sacrificed his life.  Gutierrez held
    permanent
    U.S.
resident status, which he obtained in 1999.

  6. The
percentage of citizens who were uninsured rose in 2004, while the percentage of
non-citizen immigrants who lacked coverage fell.

  7. Illegal
immigrants who are not property owners live in rental properties for which the
OWNER does, in fact, have to pay property tax. Unless the owner is extremely
stupid, this tax is covered by the rent. (Real Estate 101, my friends.)
Therefore the illegal immigrants, like all renters, are paying the landlord’s
    property tax.

  8. The vast
majority of illegal immigrants work in jobs that pay such low wages they would
receive all of their federal and state income tax back on April 15 if they did
    pay taxes.

  9. According to the U.S. government, the majority of
illegal immigrants pay taxes through Individual Taxpayer Identification numbers
of false social security numbers. On average, immigrants – regardless of legal
status – will pay $80,000 per capita MORE in taxes than they will USE in
    government services.

  10. The Social Security Administration
at this very moment holds $420 BILLION in taxes paid from earnings of illegal
immigrants who, because of their legal status, are ineligible to claim the
    funds.

  11. Only one in five illegal
immigrants sends money to another nation.

  12. Since taking office, George W.
Bush has SLASHED taxes for the top 1 percent of the population – i.e. the very rich. The average amount of money saved in taxes for the 1.3 million wealthiest
Americans PER YEAR thanks to these new laws is: $53,120 per personper year – in taxes that we were getting from the
    nation’s mullti-billionaires BEFORE Bush. That’s $69
billion. A year. For this amount of money, we as a nation could have provided
health coverage for 40 million AMERICANS for a year; almost the exact number of
Americans now living without health insurance. For that matter, we could have
provided health coverage for FOUR TIMES the number of illegal immigrants as
    currently reside here.

  13. Sixty-nine billion dollars PAID BY
OUR GOVERNMENT AS A GIFT TO THE RICH OF THIS NATION is many, many times more
than anything 11 million illegal immigrants working for $4 an hour could
    contribute.

  1. I am not against immigrants coming to this country. It’s what the country is based on. Unfortunately, you only hear the bad things that happens.

    I posted my tt

  2. I see this on the news…and read in the newspapers. The thing I see tho, bothers me somewhat….especially rallies in the Southwest U.S.-and it brings up one question…”Why do these immigrants from around the world always carry their “homeland” flags instead of U.S. flags? Just a thought I always have.

    My T T is up

  3. I am not sure if I want to chime in or not. It is a very deep subject and we as true americans are getting hosed in one form or another.
    My TT is up.

  4. This thing is going to be bigger than anyone thinks it will. They are heavy economic and political issues, and so complicated that I don’t even pretend to know what’s best, but I am thrilled that a shake-up is occurring. Whichever way people stand on these issues, they’re going to have to get involved. About damn time!

  5. Welcome back to the TT!
Youare so brave to post political opinions. There is always chance of a major backlash… that is why I just stay out of it. I am a coward.
    Thanks for the interesting read!

    Happy Thursday!
    Mine are up.

  6. About 4 and 5:

    1) The illegal immigrant cannot join the U.S. military

    2) Gutierrez held permanent U.S. resident status, which he obtained in 1999. He was not illegal when he died

    3) Jose Gutierrez was one on the first who died in Iraq, but not the first. First four soldiers died day before Jose Gutierrez was killed.

The Department of Defense announced today the identities of four U.S. Marines killed in a CH-46E helicopter crash on March 20 in Kuwait. Killed were:

Maj. Jay Thomas Aubin, 36, of Waterville, Maine
Capt. Ryan Anthony Beaupre, 30, of Bloomington, Ill.
Cpl. Brian Matthew Kennedy, 25, of Houston, Texas
Staff Sgt. Kendall Damon Watersbey, 29, of Baltimore, Md

Therrel S. Childers and Jose Gutierrez were killed in action on March 21, 2003.

  7. about this According to the U.S. government, the majority of illegal immigrants pay taxes through Individual Taxpayer Identification numbers of false social security numbers.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration report has estimated for tax year 2000 that “353,000 resident aliens who were not authorized to work in the United States filed a tax return with an ITIN and also reported wages.”

    Only 353,000 from 11 million

  8. This is one of those issues, like the war in Iraq, which causes people to make illogical arguments. Like… Allowing illegal immigrants to stay in this country is OK because I know some of them and they’re nice folks… It is true that, by and large, they are good people who work hard and just want a better life. But that doesn’t make them legal.
The immigrants are here because they are impoverished. Why are they impoverished? Because they come from countries with two classes; rich and poor. The rich got that way by corruption and using the poor. The poor stay that way because they have runaway population growth due to their religious faith. Regardless of the arguments about how they help the economy, they put stress on the public service sector. Students who speak English often get little out of the first years of school because the teachers have to spend time with children who speak only Spanish. The hospitals are stressed because non-profit hospitals are forced to treat anyone who comes through the door regardless of ability to pay. Last decade the hispanic population of Charlotte, NC grew by 800%. Much of that growth came through births with no prenatal care and no way to pay.
Granting the illegal immigrants amnesty will be a slap in the face to those citizens who got their citizinship by going through all the hoops. In a way it is like granting amnesty to the draft dodgers who went to Canada during the Viet Nam conflict. It was like spitting on those of us who went to Viet Nam because we did not want to live and raise our children in a foreign country with no chance of ever seeing our parents and family again. I’ll stop here. I have more.

  9. I never could understand why anyone would think that the wealthiest in the country should carry the poorest. Why? Do they have fewer bills? Do they not deserve to roll around in a bed of the money they earned? Why is it that anyone thinks a rich persons income should be targeted as undeserved? If you were a millionaire, or even a multi-billionaire would you be okay with some politician coming over and saying “hey, sorry man, your neighbor over there doesn’t have much, so give me your hard earned money, and I’ll give it to him.” I mean, Robin Hood was a great guy and all, but stealing from the rich to give to the poor doesn’t teach the poor anything more than how to accept money from the rich.

As far as immigrants – I say if an American is too dang proud to pick heads of lettuce for $4 an hour, someone has to do it. I don’t want to pay $10 for a head of lettuce because Jobless Joe won’t accept that job because it doesn’t pay enough or provide benes.

America has become a big screwed up mess, that’s for sure – but it’s not the fault of one sitting President. He is only in the bottom of the hole we’ve been digging for years.

    :/

  10. I’ve been following this on NPR. What a mess!

That’s cool about your gardening. My yard could use some butt kicking, too, but I’m just not feeling it enough right now…

  11. Leanne, I love it! He’s only in the bottom of the hole we’ve been digging for years, so true.

Illegal is ILLEGAL. There are ways to be legal. I have naturalized family members. It is a slap in their face to just hand over citizenship to people who did not follow the right path to have it. If immigrants want to come here, come on in, but do it legally. I want to teach internationally. So far I haven’t found anywhere that will just let me come on in and start working. There is a process that must be followed.

thanks for stopping by my place.

  12. Thanks for standing for something. Yeah, it’s not all Bush’s fault, but he only set us back by a few decades.

My 13 are non-violent and trying not to get arrested.
